Behind the scenes: Recording our first interview episode at Boston Arts Academy
We recorded our first interview show yesterday at Boston Arts Academy, and while all didn't go as planned, the students and team did an incredible job pivoting quickly and making what I think is going to be an incredible episode. I can't wait for you to hear it.
Scene in Boston is now on Apple, Spotify, and wherever else you get your podcasts. New episodes are released on Wednesdays.
We had Josephine Moshiri Elwood and Dennis Trainor Jr. in the studio yesterday to talk about their roles in Job, now playing at the SpeakEasy Stage in Boston. Lisa and I saw the show on Saturday evening. It was intense! It was also incredibly thought-provoking and I was so excited to have Josephine and Dennis with us in studio.
Unfortunately I tested positive for Covid on Tuesday. The team at Boston Arts Academy worked fast to pivot and bring me in remotely. I know the students weren't happy with the sound quality (they are perfectionists!) but it was a lesson in working within constraints... something we do in real live media all the time.
Lisa and I recorded the intro and outro, and she handled the interview with Josephine and Dennis while I listened in and friends, it is SO GOOD.
Josephine and Dennis were so warm and so thoughtful. We spent time on how they inhabit characters who carry other people’s pain for a living, what it’s like to perform something this intense night after night, and what they hope audiences take with them when they step back out into the world — online and off.
AND... I can't wait for you to hear the part where they talk about what's special about Boston audiences, and why performing here is a pleasure.
The BAA students are editing today and we'll bring you that episode early next week. Meanwhile, we are now on Apple, Spotify, and wherever else you get your podcasts. Be sure to subscribe to get the episode!
